How area scanning works

A normal Google Maps search shows a limited set of results, however many businesses really exist in the area. Axio Leads gets around that by scanning the area cell by cell.

What happens when you start a scan

  1. 1

    You choose the area

Search for a city or draw a rectangle on the map. You also give a business type and, if you like, filters such as a phone number, a website or a minimum rating.

  2. 2

The area is split into cells

The rectangle becomes a grid of cells and each cell is searched on its own, several at the same time.

  3. 3

    Dense cells are subdivided

A cell that returns a full page of results is split into four smaller cells. A cell with fewer results is finished, so quiet areas cost very little.

  4. 4

    Duplicates are removed

Neighbouring cells overlap, so a business can show up twice. Each business is kept once per scan.

  5. 5

Results appear as the scan runs

You can watch the list fill in and download it at any time. The scan ends at your lead cap, when the area is covered, or at the cell limit.

What changes the number of leads

  • The business type: broad keywords find more than very specific ones.
  • The density of the area: city centres return far more than rural areas.
  • Your filters: only leads that match are delivered and charged.
  • Your lead cap and the cell limit of the scan.

What you pay for

Credits are held for your lead cap when the scan starts. You are charged one credit for each unique lead that matches your filters and is delivered, and the rest is returned to your balance when the scan ends. The preview and the estimate are free.

What we cannot promise

  • Google may refuse requests from time to time. We retry through other routes and, if a scan has to stop early, you keep the leads found so far and the unused credits come back.
  • A listing can be missing, closed or filed under another category, so the result is a very large sample of the area rather than a census.
  • The lead estimate is only an estimate. The real number depends on the area and the keyword.
